TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE FROM AND HOW YOU ENDED UP IN FLORIDA.
“ I’m originally from Bainbridge, Georgia. Bainbridge is a small town in southwest Georgia where Georgia, Alabama and Florida come together. I went to Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC for a few years. I finished college at the University of Tampa with a degree in Biology and Education. After school, I started my career in Tampa at the Tampa Raquet Club."
WHAT DID YOU DO PRIOR TO YOUR CAREER IN REAL ESTATE?
“During the time of the big tennis boom, I was the head pro at a major tennis club in Tampa for 9 years”
HOW DID YOUR CAREER IN REAL ESTATE BEGIN?
“It was 1978, I was on a sabbatical from a shoulder injury and decided to get my real estate license. From my tennis career, I knew a lot of professionals in town and loved real estate. I was confident the contacts that I had made would help jumpstart a real estate career. I knew a little about real estate because my father was always a real estate investor. I was born into it one might say! My first transaction was a personal one. That was actually my first year out of college. All of my friends were renting and I bought a new home. The builder actually held financing for me! Two years later, I bought my first investment property at the beach.”
(Are there any factors in your tennis career that have influenced your RE career?) “Meeting someone that has a goal to acquire a property is very much like an individual wanting to perfect their serve or backhand in tennis. You basically take it from the beginning and get them what they want!”
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR CAREER NOW?
“The end product of being able to find someone their perfect home or market and sell their home. The satisfaction of seeing the accomplishment and finding the perfect property and situation for my client.”
HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY AWARDS IN YOUR YEARS OF SERVICE? CREDENTIALS?
I have been recognized in “Who’s Who” in Real Estate in the state of Florida, I was featured in the Burt Rogers School of Real Estate Who’s Who, I have maintained the status of the top 1% in my office in the 24 years that I have been there and consistently have been a top single producer, and I hold my GRI degree.”
WHAT DREW YOU TO SARASOTA? WHAT KEEPS YOU HERE?
“Actually when I lived in Tampa I visited Sarasota. I often played tennis at The Colony and the Sarasota Bath and Raquet Club. I always looked forward to coming to Sarasota and loved it…I developed a secret desire to move here someday. When I knew I was able to leave my tennis career, I felt the real estate opportunites in Sarasota were much more exciting and better with resort properties in the Sarasota area.”
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PASTTIMES?
“My passion and hobby is real estate. For personal time, the beach, the water, and boating are what I enjoy most. Although it is time consuming, I am a golfer. I also enjoy cooking and spending time with my family.”
YOU SEEM TO ENJOY WORKING IN REAL ESTATE, ARE YOU PERSONALLY INVOLVED IN THE MARKET?
“Yes, as I said, from the very beginning of my career I invested personally. I do continue to own real estate other than the place that I live. However, I have a lot of customers who are investors and I offer them properties before I buy them myself. It is important to me to not let my personal investing interfere with a potential gain for a customer.”
