“The Sarasota market has always been set apart from the rest of the market, within Florida and rest of the country. Sarasota has always been a destination for retirement, second homes. Now it is a destination where people want to live. Because of the wealth and income level of the Sarasota residents the market has remained very insulated against movement like California, the Northeast and the Midwest has seen. Being conservative by nature, the people who come to Sarasota, even though they can afford a more expensive house than they normally buy, during downturns in the market or higher interest rate times, we rarely experience a great deal of foreclosures or distress type sales.”
